Conflict between Israel and the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah has prompted concerns from the US that it risks turning into a wider regional war. The two sides have exchanged fire across the Lebanon-Israel border in recent weeks. Hezbollah said it is fighting Israel to support Hamas in Gaza. Israel's military said that operational plans for an offensive in Lebanon had been "approved and validated". The US sent its envoy to both sides of the border this week to try to resolve the conflict and to try and find diplomatic solution.
