Rosewood Opens Luxury Alpine Hotel Rosewood Schloss Fuschl

Rosewood has just opened its second Austrian hotel, Rosewood Schloss Fuschl. The hotel brand’s first foray into the European Alps, Rosewood Schloss Fuschl presents itself on the banks of Lake Fuschl, a short 30-minute drive from Salzburg.

Positioned as an ‘enriched, elevated luxury resort’, Rosewood Schloss Fuschl looks set to provide all the modern trappings expected of a five-star resort, without compromising on the rich Austrian cultural heritage of the property itself.

A 15th-century castle – situated on a spit of land that juts into the lake – has been thoughtfully restored, preserving its original beauty while also remolding the property into a luxurious alpine resort. Featuring 92 guestrooms, including 42 suites and six chalets, this new resort now poses the ideal base for those looking to soak up the impressive beauty of this corner of Europe.

Located in a region where impressive vistas are a dime a dozen, preserving and honoring the surrounding environment both played an important role throughout the restoration process and appear to be a key pillar for the hotel moving forward.

Initially constructed in 1461 as a hunting lodge for the Prince-Archbishops of Salzburg, this Austrian abode has been hosting esteemed guests for more than 500 years. Originally converted into a hotel in 1947, Rosewood’s elevation of the property was inspired by the building's rich history and its mountainous surroundings.

When it comes to design, public areas including the spa were developed by international design firm G.A. Group, while heritage suites and chalets were handled by Austrian design firm Bauer Stahl. Regional craftsmanship and local artisans also had a hand in the refresh. Each room includes a hand-painted minibar depicting the four seasons by local artist Marie Hartig.

Austria prides itself on its unique cuisine. With a collection of six separate food and beverage destinations, Rosewood Schloss Fuschl plans to honor this tradition. The star of the show is the Schloss Restaurant, which delivers both hearty classics and innovative twists such as blunzn gyoza with sauerkraut and a beurre blanc. While the menu looks to celebrate local flavors and ingredients, the wine list hasn’t been ignored. This cellar includes over 1,400 wines, ranging from regional hidden gems to new world icons, many of which have been collected in the Schloss Fuschl cellar for decades.

The ideal meeting place following an afternoon hiking the local hills, Schloss Bar was inspired by the region's impressive natural brilliance, with local artisan Marie Hartig returning to paint the walls. Guests can sit around the historic 15th-century timberline fireplace and enjoy a classic cocktail. There is also a whisky room, perfect for more intimate occasions.

The resort includes a selection of more relaxed dining situations, such as The Sisi Tee Salon (named after an iconic Austrian film shot at the hotel), Seeterrasse – which provides all-day dining with alpine to sea dishes – and a little closer to the water the Schloss Fuschl See Club.

The Austrian Alps have been highly regarded for their healing properties for centuries, be it the clean mountain air, the environment that encourages exercise or the picturesque refreshing lakes. It's impossible to leave the Alps without feeling at least a little rejuvenated. Rosewood Schloss Fuschl hopes to harness some of these healing properties at Asaya Spa.

Stretching across over 16,000 sq-ft, this new spa includes both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, three saunas, a steam bath and eight elegantly designed treatment rooms. For guests heading to the hotel specifically with health and wellness in mind, Rosewood has designed specific two to three-day retreats centered around biohacking, dynamic aging and holistic paths to well-being.
